Lesson Plans

With only 30 minutes per week with each class, every child is expected to behave well and be a cooperative and active participant.   The Music grade will be an "S"atisfactory, needs "I"mprovement, or "U"nsatisfactory, and is based on these two areas:  Behavior and Participation.

Classroom Management Plan in my Music Classroom

Behavior Management

I have class rules:
  • Participate
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself
  • Raise your hand to speak
  • Play instruments only with permission
  • Remain on the correct page
  • Respect the teacher and other students
  • Don’t lay down on the floor

I have five rules for being a Star Listener:

  • Eyes are watching
  • Ears are listening
  • Lips are closed
  • Hands are still
  • Feet are quiet

I expect the students to demonstrate these 6 pillars of Character:

  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Caring
  • Citizenship
  • Fairness
  • Trustworthy

I have two tracking systems:  Individual and Class

Individual:  If a student is having difficulty even with redirection, then I will have them sit towards the back of the room in “the chill out zone” and they will write music vocabulary definitions until they are ready to join the class again.  I keep track of the pages and at the time for grades to be reported, if I have 0-2 the student gets an S; 3-5 the student gets an I; 6+ the student gets a U.  This is per 9 weeks.  If they get an I during progress report time, they will either remain with an I or drop to a U by the end of the 9 weeks, but can’t earn an S back – However they start over at the next 9 weeks.  (As an alternate, should a student not respond to the chill out break, then I do make an entry on the student's Pink Discipline Form.)

Class:  Every class begins with a 3 on the board.  Their goal is to keep the 3 the whole class period.  As class behavior/Participation drops, the 3 becomes a 2 (or further to a 1 or 0), and the class has the opportunity to earn the 3 back.  The class score is reported to the teacher each week.
